I don't particularly believe in anything supernatural. I spent a large part of my childhood trying to find magic that works. What I found was that there are really only two choices when it comes to magic: illusion, and religion. Neither one was what I wanted. I knew from an early age that religion was not for me, nor I for it. Over the past ten years, I have discovered that religion and magical thinking weaken and cheapen the world, and that an ugly truth is more beautiful than a beautiful lie.

I have a lot of friends who are religious, and it always makes me sad when I discover that someone I like believes in god. The feeling is rather like how I'd react if someone told me they don't like hugs, or that they don't like movies, or that they attempt suicide on a monthly basis.
