The current administration is pushing abstinece-only education, that children should save themselves from having S-- until they get married. Why is marriage considered so wonderful that we spend tax-payer dollars promoting it and trying to strengthen it? What's wrong with government being neutral on the subject? I've seen many miserable marriages in my time. Maybe the state should get out of the marriage licensing business all together. If two people wish to legally entangle their assets and and liabilities they should have to draw up their own contract. If religious groups wish to perform some ritual commemorating this occasion they could just go ahead and wave a dead chicken over the couples head, or whatever it is they do. Marriage as we know it should be abolished. Anybody who wants a legal entanglement with their treasured s----l partner should draw up his or her own contract.

.I'm sure that there are economic/political reasons that this is being focused on by the govt so much lately--reasons that I don't have any guesses to. Money is usually behind many political actions.
IMO, though, lots of people are preooccupied with asserting their status as "normal." One way to prove that one is definitely "in the group" (in this case, society) is to point out all the people who aren't--people who choose not to act traditionally (premarital sex, cohabitation, same S-- relationships).

I agree. For some reason, many people are uncomfortable with different ideas or viewpoints and they want you to conform as well. It seems threatening, for some reason, to them if you have different lifestyle.

`Marriage is just a contract between two people making them do the right thing, i cant see myself trying to be happy with someone who is not happy with me. real love is rare. i like my choices, all men are different, i need a superman.

but there must be some laws about children however the existence of these laws doesn't necessarily need marriage concept.
