`Belief is the counterfeit of knowledge.
The whole point of being an atheist is to not cripple oneself with borrowed beliefs.
It is self-evident, should you choose to examine the mechanism of belief, that belief causes the death of intelligence by ignoring data and pre-empting investigation.
Christians believe that a god chose to be murdered for committing heresy, so that we humans can be washed clean of our dirty deeds merely by apologising to the holy heretic, who nevertheless requires our unquestioning submission to church doctrine.
It seems that such a doctrine was designed to unhinge the mental faculty. Which raises the question : what manner of being would do such a thing ?

`“Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree. Yeah. Makes perfect sense.â€Â

“[When you finish praying,] never forget to say, ‘Amen’: it’s like ‘Abracadabra’, only Christian. And like ‘Simon says’ or ‘Mother may I’, if you forget to say it you will lose your turn …â€Â

“That’s why they have to pump it into your head when you’re still little and you’ve got a soft spot, and you’re Santa Claus-eligible, and they f*&@ing pump it all in there then, you don’t know any better, and then they cork it in there with a whole bunch of fear …â€Â
-- Doug Stanhope
"You believe in a book that has talking animals, wizards, witches, demons, sticks turning into snakes, food falling from the sky, people walking on water, and all sorts of magical, absurd and primitive stories, and you say that we are the ones that need help?"
-- Dan Barker
“We may define "faith" as the firm belief in something for which there is no evidence. Where there is evidence, no one speaks of "faith." We do not speak of faith that two and two are four or that the earth is round. We only speak of faith when we wish to substitute emotion for evidence. The substitution of emotion for evidence is apt to lead to strife, since different groups, substitute different emotions."
-- Bertrand Russell
"The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason."
-- Benjamin Franklin
“Faith, n. Belief without evidence in what is told by one who speaks without knowledge, of things without parallel.â€Â
-- Ambrose Bierce
“Faith consists in believing not what is true, but what seems false to our understanding.â€Â

“Faith is believing something you know ain't true.â€Â
-- Mark Twain
“The notion that faith in Christ is to be rewarded by an eternity of bliss, while a dependence upon reason, observation, and experience merits everlasting pain, is too absurd for refutation, and can be relieved only by that unhappy mixture of insanity and ignorance, called ‘faith.’â€Â
– Robert G. Ingersoll
“Prayer: how to do nothing and still feel like you are helping.â€Â

"Two hands working can do more than a thousand clasped in prayer."

“Pray: To ask the laws of the universe to be annulled on behalf of a single petitioner confessedly unworthy."

`There is freedom of religion and freedom from religion.
As long as religions exist, I will treat them all equally. I refuse to pluck one out of the many and proclaim/assume it's the Absolute Truth.
One person's religion is another person's myth; and vice versa.

`I am an atheist because my own existence is far more likely that that of a being that was around before anything and made everything of nothing. Complex beings (like humans and gods) only come about after a long evolutionary process. They are never simply there.

`I were an agnostic all of my conscious life though my mother read me the Bible but I still don't believe any word that had written and now I determinately study Buddhism and ready to choose it as my general faith.
