I tend to question all beliefs I never could fit my views into any one category, so eventually I quit trying. I'm one of those pains in the --- who deconstructs nearly everything. Whether I "believe in god(s)" or not depends on what one means by the words "believe" and "god." Do I believe in some kind of external, omnipotent, and omniscient supernatural spirit-entities who control, reward, and punish? Nope, nope, NOPE! Do I see plenty of evidence that many "gods" "exist" as characters, psychosocial entities, metaphors, memes, narratives, or whatever you want to call them, and that they have very measurable effects on all levels, from the cultural to the personal? Most definitely. I don't get along well with Jehovah/Yahweh/Yahu, but I'm pretty partial to Pan, Athena, Shiva, and Eshu. I'm actually very open to some things that are often given labels like "spiritual" or even--gasp! Dawkins forgive me!--"occult," but for various reasons I don't see those labels as accurate or eve particularly helpful. The bottom line is that I think we've drawn SO MANY lines that our exploration of the universe and our place within it trips over them ("heart" vs. "mind," "body" vs. "spirit," "science" vs. "spirituality," and all the rest). I'd like to find others with whom to live and learn, sing and dance, and create and enjoy.
